Photo by Alice Alinari on Unsplash “Fawn: to behave abjectly before a superior, to seek favor by servile flattery or exaggerated attention, to ingratiate oneself by a menial or subservient attitude.” ~Merriam-Webster dictionary You impressed me. The way you carried yourself---erect, poised, sure-footed in sensible shoes on the cracked city sidewalk. Your patterned vintage scarf paired nicely with your tweed jacket and upswept hair. I sensed a breezy que sera attitude as you and your partner window-shopped on an overcast October day. Then you did something that destroyed that impression. And in that moment, I was seized with a repulsion that took time to unpack.

Oh, I love this Carol! I've seen it and observed it countless times, marking their territory indeed. I've only heard my sister and one other woman mention this—I have thought, why don't you just raise your leg and pee on him—that'll keep the other women away!
I struggled with this one, Jean. I believe what I wrote, but I’m expecting some pushback. We shall see. As a writer, i’ve chosen to speak my truth regardless of how and/or where it lands. I value your responses always. Keep them coming 💜💜💜

Oh my God, Joan, I am literally laughing out loud! Talk about peeing…🤣🤣🤣
Fawning is a a much nicer word...until you dig deep with it like you did! I also crack up when I envision the peeing scenario :-)
Fawning as a word is so descriptive 🤣🤣🤣
Well written, quite a bit to think about. I hope I don’t fawn!!!!!
